Edmund J. Sewruk Sr. 1939-2025

Born May 28, 1939, in Krzeszow, Poland, Ed’s life was a remarkable journey of resilience, faith and joy. Having survived a German war camp as a child and immigrating to Youngstown with his family in 1951, he built a life marked by gratitude and generosity.

He served in the Army from 1962-1968, showcasing his commitment to his country. He retired from his career at Amex Dies in Girard in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

Religion played a pivotal role in Ed’s life. As a faithful attendee at St. James Catholic Church, he always walked in faith and lived his life according to the teachings of the church.

He was a dedicated member of VFW Post 9571 and fervently supported charities like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the ASPCA.

Ed had a beautiful soul, and his greatest accomplishment was the love he gave so selflessly to others. He left us with the knowledge that the most important things in life are not material possessions, but the love in our hearts. His humility, patience and kindness were his true riches. Many remember him for his radiant smile, warmth and kindness he unapologetically showed to others.

Ed enjoyed fishing, dancing, whistling, playing the harmonica and painting. His love for Westerns and music, notably, the tunes of Johnny Cash and ’50s rock ‘n’ roll, was infectious.

Ed was a dedicated family man survived by his daughter, Lori (Brian) West; his son, Edmund (Kristina) Sewruk Jr.; his sister, Barbara Rogich; and his brother, John Sewruk. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Rocky and Trinity Sewruk, and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Josef Sewruk; mother, Gertruda Domalewska Sewruk; and sister, Harriet Sewruk Labedz.

Memorial church services for Edmund will be held at a future date.
