Dolores Shreve 1928-2025
CARY, N.C. — Dolores “Scoop” Harrison Shreve left her earthly life on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, at age 97, while residing in Cary, North Carolina.
Dolores was born May 5, 1928, in Youngstown, to Stephen and Catherine Lisko Harrison.
Scoop graduated from Youngstown South High School in 1946, where her work on the school newspaper as a reporter was the source of the nickname, which stayed with her through the decades. In 1950, she earned an AB degree from Denison University and subsequently taught at the Market Street Elementary School in Boardman.
Dolores married Robert Pryor Shreve on June 16, 1951. When his military service in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict stationed him in Norfolk, Virginia, she joined him there.
After returning to Youngstown, she spent her life as a dedicated wife and mother. In addition, she had a strong faith and belief in God and often served as a Sunday school teacher.
Dolores is survived by her three sons, David H. (Kate), Charles R. (Deborah) and Paul R. (Lisa); her grandchildren, Rae (Todd) Jobe, Eric (Chelci), Emily and Brian Shreve; and eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Gordon Harrison.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at Rachel’s Restaurant, 54 Westchester Drive No. 23, Austintown, OH 44515.
Dolores donated her body to the University of North Carolina for scientific research and requested any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, https://diabetes.org.
