Cyril M. Turek Jr. 1952-2025
CANFIELD — Cyril Methodius Turek Jr. passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, after a year-long battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 14, 1952. He was a proud graduate of Chaney High School.
Cyril served his country in the United States Marine Corps and carried the quiet discipline and dignity of that service with him throughout his life.
He was the beloved father of Cara Winterburn (Tony) of Austintown, Cyril Turek III (C.J.) of Canfield, Kristen Amicone and Gina Turek, both of Florida, and stepfather to Lehanne Craciun of Austintown. He is also survived by his sisters, Jamey Zborowski of California and Dorothy Holtzman of Berlin Center. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Evan and Ethan English, Chase and Alana Turek, and Antonio, Alicia and A.B. Gutierrez, all of whom he loved very much.
He will be remembered as a strong and loving father and brother, and for the close friendships that meant so much to him — especially with his cousin, George Turek, who brought plants to his deck when he could no longer tend his own garden and always called to let him know when a NASCAR race or Browns game was on, and his friend Raymond Minnitti, who called him every single day during this last year to check in and keep him company.
In his earlier years, Cyril worked as a stage manager and lighting director, touring with the Michael Stanley Band. Those years on the road were among the best of his life, filled with music, travel and the kind of friendships that last a lifetime.
Cyril had a passion for growing garlic from around the world, a tradition he shared with his sister, Jamey, who often sent him unique varieties to plant. He also enjoyed making homemade wine and sharing it with those close to him.
Cyril saw people for who they were and welcomed them without expectation. There was a quiet strength in him — steady, unassuming and deeply felt — a strength he may have never even known he had.
Through it all, his loyal dog, Luna “Lu” stood by his side — his constant companion and source of comfort for nearly five years.
A celebration of Cyril’s life will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at St. Christine Church, 3125 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown.
Family and friends are welcome.
Arrangements handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home, Salem.
