Anthony Fred Bowens 1957-2025
NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Anthony “Tony” Fred Bowens, 68, of New Kensington, Pa., departed this life at 6:44 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at his residence, following complications of an extended illness.
He was born May 2, 1957, in Youngstown, the son of Ulysses Sr. and Ada Laverne Troutman Bowens.
Tony was employed with Rollers Cafeteria for one year as a dishwasher and also worked for Pyatt Street Food Market, Habitat for Humanity, General Motors B.O.C. Lordstown Division, Checkers Restaurant and Burger King. He was a 1975 graduate of South High School and attended Kent State University.
He was a member of Eden Masonic Lodge Chapter 42 in Marietta, Georgia. He enjoyed football and baseball, and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy between 1978 and 1979.
He leaves to mourn two brothers, Nasheed Bowens of Fishers, Indiana, and Yusuf Shalah of Hemet, California; two sisters, Ms. Beverly Bowens of Marietta, Georgia, and Ms. Lilla Jean “Jeannie” Bowens Floyd of Creighton, Pa.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ms. Gwendolyn Bowens Altemus; and one nephew, Dante Harris.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Chapel, with calling hours 10 to 11 a.m.
Burial will take place in Mahoning Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
