William J. Cardon 1932-2025

COLUMBIANA — William “Weige” Joe Cardon, 93, formerly of Struthers, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025.
Born Aug. 25, 1932, in Youngstown, Bill was the son of the late Charles and Rosemarie Barbieri Cardon.
A graduate of Chaney High School, he was a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley and took great pride in his roots and community. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
Bill dedicated 35 years of his career as a district manager with Ogden Allied Corporation in Cleveland. Following that, he worked as the warehouse manager for Gorant Candies in Boardman for 20 years, retiring in 2015. His strong work ethic and leadership left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
A devoted member of Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, Bill found joy in faith, family and fellowship. He was a proud Italian American who cherished his heritage and frequently attended local Italian social events. Above all, Bill loved spending time with his family — especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He and his beloved wife, Dorothy, shared a lifelong love of dancing, creating countless cherished memories over the years.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy L. Botak Cardon; his children, William J. Cardon of Canfield and Kathleen Backner of Poland; his grandchildren, Chris (Alexa) Backner of Nashville, Tennessee, Leslie Backner of Poland and Melissa (David) Griffith of Tampa, Florida; his brother, Anthony (Antoinette) Cardon of Canfield; and 10 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Cardon; and his five sisters and their husbands, Florence (Albert) Berarducci, Ann (James) Cordova, Elsie (Joseph) Falcony, Jean (Alphonso) Ghioldi and Mary Jane (James) Farris.
Family and friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, and 1 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church, with Fr. Thomas Kraszewski officiating.
Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.
