Sr. Ann McManamon, HM 1933-2025

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Sister Ann McManamon, HM, formerly Sr. Mary Patrick, 91, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at Villa Maria Community Center.
Originally from Cleveland, she graduated from Lourdes Academy in 1952 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in 1953 from St. James Church, Lakewood. She professed her perpetual vows in 1958.
Sr. Ann was a respected figure in the Youngstown community and dedicated her life to the service of others. Her faithful witness at the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality spoke to her determined and passionate heart for the poor and her courageous and gentle spirit.
She began her ministry as an educator, teaching in the Youngstown and Cleveland dioceses. She brought her expertise from the classroom to the diocesan level when she served at the diocesan office in Pittsburgh as an educational consultant and assistant superintendent of secondary schools.
Sr. Ann served as a manager in Christian housing for seniors and in administration in a seminary; in the health care field as VP for mission services at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center; and in parish ministry during her 13 years as pastoral associate at St. Christine Parish in Youngstown. She served on numerous councils and boards in Youngstown, as well as committees and in administrative support roles for the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
She was honored for her work in the community as a recipient of a Youngstown Catholic Charities Voice of Hope Award in 2010 and as the local recipient of the 2023 Simeon Booker Award for Courage at the Tyler History Center in Youngstown.
Sr. Ann retired in 2022 as coordinator of the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Youngstown after nurturing the ministry since its opening in 2009.
In her reflection for the celebration of her 70th Jubilee in 2023, Sr. Ann wrote “How wonderful these 70 years have been, both in the opportunity to receive and to give. Hopefully I am blessed by leaving this world in that belief: that with Dorothy Day, we were indeed created to serve the poor and to learn from the poor all the many, many things I (especially) do not know! Please pray for all those who come to those doors, and remember me as that one little, humble servant in the process, making those doors possible for all of us.”
She served with her sisters in the HM Ministry of Prayer at Villa Maria Community Center until her death.
The daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary P. Berry McManamon, and sister of the late Mary Gael Berry, Patrick F. and Thomas McManamon, she is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families, and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation, with whom she shared her life for 72 years.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria, Pa., with a Rite of Return and viewing beginning at 9:45 a.m. Friday in the chapel. The funeral will be livestreamed.
