Shirley A. Mauerman 1944-2025

She was born April 19, 1944, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Marcella Craver Langenheim.

Shirley was a career Army wife whose journey took her from Youngstown to Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Stewart, Georgia; and Frankfurt, Germany; and then back to Austintown, where she lived for more than 50 years.

Shirley attended Wilson High School and participated in Choffin’s restaurant service program, which prepared her for her professional journey that took her to various roles in the food service industry, where she worked as a waitress at Perkin’s (Mahoning Ave.), Muzzy’s, and Country Kitchen. Her friendly disposition and exceptional service made her a cherished presence in the establishments where she worked, and she developed meaningful relationships with countless patrons and coworkers over the years, including her friends, Aggie and Debbie.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Paul Mauerman Sr.; their son, Gordon “Gordy” Paul Mauerman Jr.; sister, Patti Bonham (Pat Sebastian); brothers, Richard (Pat), Ronald and James Langenheim; brothers-in-law, Myron Wem, Robert Shellenberger, Steve Lederman and Gary Mauerman; a beloved niece, Ashley Wem, and nephew, Gary Lederman.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Steven A. Mauerman, and his wife, Gail; sisters, Carol Shellenberger, Rhonda Wem and Lori (Dennis) Demchak; brother, Kenneth Langenheim (Michael Casias); sisters-in-law, Debbie Langenheim, Debbie Lederman and Ruth (John) Field; brother-in-law, O.D. Hand; an aunt, Katie (William) Owens; best friend, Linda Mauerman; as well as many nieces and nephews

The joy she found in her only grandchild, Sydney Mauerman, and her great-grandchildren, Leila and Jaxon, exemplified the deep love for family and what she cherished.

Steven and Gail would like to thank Hospice of the Valley by Compassus, most notably nurse Tonya and her aide, Sierra, as well as all of the wonderful nurses and aides who provided much-needed guidance and support through Shirley’s last journey. The last 10 weeks were made so much brighter for Shirley because of the unwavering presence of her youngest sister, Lori, and the daily visits of her granddaughter by marriage, Amanda Winner (who assisted in her daily care), and her infant daughter, Amelia, who brought smiles, laughter and great joy to Shirley.

To honor Shirley’s request, there will be no calling hours or service.
