Robert Hoover 1945-2025

STRONGSVILLE — Robert Hoover, 80, of Strongsville, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Robert was born Jan. 19, 1945, in Pomona, California, to Cal and Irene Birmingham Hoover.

He grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and Youngstown State University.

Robert served in the United States Army before beginning his career with JCPenney, where he met his future wife, Diane. He later worked as a State Farm Insurance Agent in Westlake for 40 years.

Robert was known for his humor, strong work ethic and positive, easygoing nature. He loved sports, funny movies and music, and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Robert also had a deep love for dogs. His beloved companions Buffy, Alex, Corky, Mooney, Elsie, Tyler and Oliver, are surely ready to greet him in heaven. He brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his sister, Lynn (Jimmy) Maizel; and his brother-in-law, Mitch (Patti) Selesnak. He is also survived by his nieces, Kristen, Kathryn and Suzanne; great-nephews, Ben, Noah and James; and great-niece, Josephine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Cal Hoover; his brother, Dick; his father-in-law, Emil; and his mother-in-law, Kathryn.

Family and friends are invited to attend Robert’s funeral from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 421 Covington St., Youngstown.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Vaschak Kirilla Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown.

Flowers may be sent to either the church or the funeral home at the addresses above.

Robert’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
