Patricia Benson 1970-2025

CANTON — Patricia “Patty” Benson, 55, beloved daughter of Mary Ann and the late Ronald Benson, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at her home.

Patty loved her family deeply and was surrounded throughout her life by their affection. She enjoyed playing cards, drawing and dancing. Patty was always the life of the party! Outgoing and friendly, Patty never met a stranger and treasured the opportunity to make new friends. Her happiest memories were created while spending time with her family. She loved outings to the casino, shooting pool and bowling. Known for her playful spirit, Patty was famous for being silly and pulling lighthearted pranks. She gave the best hugs, was generous with her love and had a warm heart that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

A 1992 graduate of Leonard Kirtz School, Patty was employed for many years at the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities workshop in Boardman. In her later years, she made her home in Canton and spent her days at ResCare Community Living, where she built lasting friendships and enjoyed daily life.

Patty is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Benson; her sister, Kitty Benson Mort of Louisville; her brothers, Dr. David (Alisha) Benson of St. Marys, Richard Benson of Cuyahoga Falls and Joseph (Michelle) Benson of Youngstown. She was a proud and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, Charlie, Zoe and Brady Mort of Louisville, and Jessica Benson of Youngstown. Her family was the center of her heart and the joy of her life.

She is reunited in heaven with her devoted father, Ronald Benson; her beloved brother, Staff Sgt. Michael Benson; paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Benson; and maternal grandparents, Ferris and Marianna Shady.

Family and friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman. A memorial service, led by Pastor Ed Carter, will follow at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
