Harry E. Wheland 1938-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Harry “Wickie” Wheland, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, Oct. 10, 2025, at Hospice House, with his loving daughter Pamela by his side.

Harry was born May 8, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of Edwin and Helen Bower Wheland.

Harry attended East High School and served in the U.S. Army.

He worked for Valley Mold & Iron for 30 years, Brainard Strapping and Girard Hardware.

He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball team, playing weekend card games with the neighbors and just having fun. He loved his family dearly and was always there for them.

Harry married the love of his life, the former Georgiann Majors, on July 26, 1955.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela (John) Lucansky; estranged daughter, Tammey DeVicchio; grandchildren, Stephanie (Mark) Donahue of Hudson, whom he loved and raised as his own, Granden Armstrong, Megan Chearno, Nicholas DeVicchio, Madison Lucansky of Cincinnati and Seth (fiancee, Marian) Lucansky; six great-grandchildren; sister, Sandy Nalepa; sister-in-law, Nancy (George) Millovich; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Georgiann, who passed away June 26, 2021; brothers, Ronald, Edwin and William; and sister, Marjorie Franklin.

Family and friends may call 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, followed by a 6 p.m. funeral service, at Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Boardman St. Elizabeth ICU and 6 West, along with the nurses at Hospice of the Mahoning Valley for the care and compassion shown in his final days.
