Gloria A. Bednar 1942-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Gloria A. Bednar, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, 2025, at Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her family.

Gloria was born June 11, 1942, in Toledo. She was adopted by the late James and Rose Bushong and came to the Youngstown area as a child.

She was a graduate of The Rayen School and worked as a state-tested nursing assistant at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers for 25 years before retiring. Gloria’s caring nature and gentle spirit touched many lives throughout her years of service.

Gloria found joy in life’s simple pleasures — cooking for her family, playing cards, solving word search puzzles, knitting and taking day trips with her dear friends, Debbie and Jody. She also enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and catching up with friends she made while shopping at IGA in Struthers.

In her younger years, Gloria attended St. Luke Church in Boardman.

Left to forever cherish Gloria’s memory are her three children, Kimberly Bednar Elliott (fiance, Jim Antal) of Niles, James (Charisa) Bednar Jr. of Youngstown and Tim (Jodi) Bednar of Canfield; five grandchildren, Zachary Bednar, Layni Bednar, Jake Bednar, Layken Bednar and Matthew (Kara) Elliott; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Connor; and many extended family members and friends.

Her husband of 45 years, James Bednar Sr., whom she married Feb. 8, 1964, preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2009. Her son-in-law, William Elliott, is also deceased.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, where Gloria will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.

Gloria’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House, in appreciation of the wonderful care and compassion shown to her.
