Frank W. Sotlar 1952-2025

LOWELLVILLE — Frank W. Sotlar, 73, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, after a long illness, with his wife of 52 years by his side.

Frank married the former Jean DeMarco on May 25, 1974. He loved taking Jean to Lake Erie anytime she felt like they were “halfway to the lake,” which could mean that they were 10 minutes from home.

He was a proud father to his three children, Frank, Jessica and Tony, and was blessed to welcome his bonus children, Amy, Paul and Emily (his children’s spouses). But the greatest joy in his life was the time he got to spend with his five grandchildren, Grace, Belle (Joel), Liv, Dominic and Claire. You will never meet a more devoted Poppy. He thrived on going to their games, school events, clubs or Scouting events. It was a frequent sight to walk into his house and see him sitting with one of them on his lap, watching their favorite movie, playing with them, teaching them to make Poppy’s meatballs and pigs in a blanket, or just otherwise enjoying as much time as possible with them.

His hobbies were antique cars, cooking and feeding people.

Besides the family he made with Jean, he is survived by his sister, Linda Zappia; his dear mother-in-law, Betty DeMarco; Roan Craig, Nancy and Mike Swiatkwich, Ed and Jan DeMarco, Lori and Bob Ficorilli, Judy DeMarco, Val and Jeff Jones, and the Snoop sisters, Carol and Frannie. He loved his many nieces and nephews and took great joy in sitting and talking with them.

He was welcomed to heaven by his parents, Frank and Josephine Sotlar; his father-in-law, Ed DeMarco; twin sister, Patricia Trinckes; brothers-in-law, Joe Zappia, Ken Craig and Tony DeMarco; and his lifelong best friends, Cliff and Linda DePillo.

Friends will be received 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, followed immediately by a memorial celebration of life beginning at noon.
