Edith M. Firestone 1929-2025

POLAND — Edith Mae Firestone, “Edie,” 96, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, the fall equinox. Those of you who knew her know that she was one of a kind. She lit up the room with her big, beautiful smile anytime she entered. She was smart, strong and patient.
Edie graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1949 and got a job as a waitress at the North Lima Isaly’s. One day, in 1960, a very special customer, Bob Firestone, came in for coffee. They hit it off immediately and were married in 1962, the same year they bought the New Middletown Isaly’s, which shortly thereafter became the Tiger’s Table Restaurant, which they owned until retiring in 1993.
In addition to her career as a restaurant owner, Edie loved bowling, Vegas, poker with friends and a good pizza with a glass of cold beer. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She hated winter with a passion. It makes sense that Edie chose to exit on the equinox. In the fall, she used to keep track of the minutes of daylight that we were losing every day, and in the spring, she loved to watch the daylight increase. She also loved the beach. Hopefully, there’s a beach where she is, and she and Bob are holding hands, walking along the shore.
Edie was the daughter of the late Otto C. Heberling and Lillian Armes Heberling. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert E. Firestone, “Bob.” She missed him dearly for the past 20 years. Edie was also preceded in death by her five brothers, William “Bill” Heberling, Otto “Bunky” Heberling Jr., Carl Heberling, Russell Heberling and Lawrence Heberling.
Edie is survived by her daughter, Lesley Anna Firestone; son-in-law, Philip R. Miele; sister, Lovetta “Kitty” Flitcraft; brother-in-law, Carl Flitcraft; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two “grand doggies,” Leo and Oscar, whom she loved to spoil.
The family requests that if you would like to make a donation in Edie’s honor that you donate to your favorite animal rescue group or that you plant a tree.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
