Dolores Peterson 1938-2025
LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Dolores Peterson, 87, formerly of Youngstown, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, in Little River, South Carolina, where she moved to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law.
Born Jan. 2, 1938, in Campbell, she is the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Murar Macala.
A graduate of East High School, Dolores made significant contributions in her professional life, serving for 25 years as a production line supervisor at Gorant Candies.
Her commitment to her work was noted by all who knew her, but it was her devotion to her family that truly defined her. Dolores found her greatest joy in nurturing and supporting her loved ones, an accomplishment she held close to her heart.
Dolores enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues, forming lasting friendships and enjoying her time spent on the lanes. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always in her thoughts as she spent a lot of time going to the many baseball games over the years. She also was an avid Cleveland Guardians fan.
Dolores is survived by her son, Ronald (Jennifer) Peterson of Little River; her son-in-law, Michael McHenry of Canfield; grandchildren, Matthew (Lauren) Bagoly and Jason (Abby) Bagoly; her stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Everett, Jessica Amorim and Megan Tanner; and her great-grandchildren, Brantley and Benny.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Emil “Pete” Peterson, whom she married Sept. 21, 1957, and who died Dec. 5, 2017; and her beloved daughter, Cheryl McHenry.
A visitation will be held in her honor from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Youngstown, OH 44515, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
The funeral procession will then conclude at Resurrection Cemetery, 300 N. Raccoon Road, Youngstown, OH 44515.
Professional services are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
