David W. Myers Jr. 1951-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — David W. Myers Jr., 74, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, Oct. 21, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

David was born March 2, 1951, in Niles, a son of the late Lucy Madish Myers. He was a lifelong area resident and was especially close with his grandparents, August and Philomena Madish, who helped raise him.

He was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School, attended Kent State University, and worked at various steel mills in Warren until the mills closed.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany, where he served as a member of the military police — SP4, 793rd Battalion from 1971 to 1973.

He was an active member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church and a devoted member of the Rosary Makers at both St. Mary’s and the Franciscan Friary. Over the years, David handcrafted more than 100,000 rosaries that were shared near and far — a testament to his deep faith and generous spirit.

David enjoyed watching Westerns, gardening and taking walks in Mill Creek Park. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and a devoted animal lover, cherishing the companionship of his dogs Charlie, Dusty and Buster, and especially his beloved Riley, who was his constant companion. He also enjoyed cooking, particularly making his delicious soups, and most of all, spending time with his family.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Ragan Myers, whom he married June 4, 1977; his two children, Jennifer (Jaret) Gibbons of Ellwood City, Pa., and D.J. Myers of Middleton, Wisconsin; and his four grandchildren, Annabella, Preston, Jack and Kennedy.

In addition to his mother, David was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 356 S. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown, where a funeral liturgy will take place at 10 a.m.

Committal services with military honors will follow at St. Mary Parish Cemetery.
