Ann C. Desimone 1928-2025

Ann will always be remembered for her warm smile, kindness, generosity and loving nature. She touched the lives of many through her faith, service and unwavering commitment to her family and community.

Born in Morgantown, Pa., on March 25, 1928, she was the daughter of Albert and Mary Toporcer Cison. As a young child, Ann traveled with her mother to Europe in 1929 and returned to Ohio in 1934 at the age of 5.

In 1950, Ann began working at the General Electric plant, where she remained until its closure. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication.

A devout Catholic, Ann was a lifelong and deeply involved member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. Her faith was central to her life, and, in 2018, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her countless hours of service. She volunteered tirelessly for the parish’s monthly spaghetti dinners, the festival committee, St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, bereavement committee, parish council and many other ministries. She participated in the bishop’s appeal and faithfully prepared church envelopes. Every Monday, she served as a Eucharistic adorer, a devotion that brought her deep spiritual fulfillment.

Ann also belonged to several religious and service organizations, including the Mothers of the Crucifix Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild (St. Stanislaus Church) and the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary 1222.

In her leisure time, Ann enjoyed bowling and, more recently, playing bocce. Her enthusiasm for life and love of community remained strong throughout the years.

In 1955, Ann married Patsy Desimone. They shared 29 years of marriage before his passing in 1984.

Ann is survived by her niece, Clara Kana; nephew, Eugene (Christine) Kana; two stepsons, Patrick (Patricia) Desimone and Michael Desimone; stepgrandchildren, Matthew (Lauren), Melissa, Michael and Amanda Desimone; and a stepgreat-grandson, Alex Desimone. She also leaves behind many other nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Patsy; her sister, Catherine Kana; her brother, Stephen Ciscon; and her stepdaughter, Patricia Jean Strausburg.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown. A funeral Mass will follow at noon Thursday at the church, celebrated by the Very Rev. Monsignor John Zuraw, J.C.L., V.G.

Ann will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
