Allie Mae Ross 1923-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Mrs. Allie Mae Shannon Ross, 101, transitioned from this earthly labor to her eternal heavenly reward on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mrs. Ross was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Dundee, Mississippi, a daughter of Edward and Nicey Connors Shannon.
She was a 1941 graduate of Clarksdale High School in Dundee, Mississippi. In 1945, she married the late Albert Ross and relocated to Youngstown in 1950, and to this union three children were born. Allie and Albert were happily married for 70 years. Allie Mae had been employed in the maintenance department with Youngstown City Schools for 12 years, retiring June 1, 1993. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church since 1951, and was active in many of their ministries, namely, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Senior Choir, No. II Usher Ministry, Mission Ministry, Pastor’s Aide, and the Altar Guild. Needless to say, she was on the battlefield for her Lord. Allie enjoyed singing, fishing and traveling to her family reunions. She often said that her devoted daughter and son took good care of their mother, as well as her grandchildren who all played a part in her care as she got older.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life and legacy, two children, Mary Jean Vines and Michael Ross Sr.; grandchildren, Michelle, Tyrell, Michael Jr., Maurice Rashad, Marquan and Tyree; great-grandchildren, Ce’Yanni, Joel, Tiana, Josh, A J, Micah, Mariah and Jasmi; great-great-grandchildren, Christian, Channel and E’Zaria; nephew-in-law, Larry Arthur Jones; niece-in-law, Rita Riddle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Meeting her at Heaven’s Gate were her parents; husband, Albert who passed away April 5, 1999; her son, Albert Lavell Ross; grandchildren, Kim Thomas, Marcus Patmon, Amerah and Iris; nephews, Charles Mills and Antwon “Tony” Mills, and Lee Henry Morris; two brothers, Early and Jefferson Shannon; and five sisters, Clara Munn, Hester Draper, Ester Brown, Annie Kilpatrick and Clementine Mills.
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505, where a celebration of a life well lived will follow at 10 a.m.
The family entrusted their loved one to the ministry of comfort and dignity to L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown.
