William Evankovich 1930-2025

COLUMBIANA — William “Bill” Evankovich, 95, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at Windsor House at Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana.

He was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Hillsville, Pa., the son of the late Mike Evankovich and Mary Shulack Stiyokovich.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War.

He was a 1948 graduate of Boardman High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio Northern University in Ada.

He began his career working as a pharmacist for Gray Drug in Liberty, followed by Peoples Drug Store in Salem, and then became owner and operator of North Lima Pharmacy. Bill retired in 1988 after working for 30 years as a pharmacist.

He was a lifetime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in North Lima, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Bill also was a member of both East Palestine Masonic Lodge 417 F&AM and the Moose Family Lodge, as well as a past member of the Beaver Ruritan Club.

He had many hobbies, including tennis, playing cards, watching sporting events and visiting the Canfield Fair and showing his antique Ferguson tractor. He also was an accomplished pilot who served as an instrument-rated instructor.

Bill loved spending time with his beloved wife, Charlotte, whom he met while roller skating in 1947. The couple enjoyed traveling and taking ocean cruises, as well as attending shows.

Bill will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Charlotte Mellinger Evankovich, whom he married March 10, 1951; daughter, Debra (Greg) Repasky of New Springfield; two sons, Gary Alan (Elizabeth) Evankovich of Cornelius, North Carolina, and Tim (Jamie) Evankovich of Naples, Florida; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Olga Hatmaker.

The family will receive friends 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Services will be 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Patrick J. Smith officiating.

Burial will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, North Lima.

Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., North Lima, OH 44452.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
