Suzanne M. O’Mellan 1947-2025
MINERAL RIDGE — Suzanne M. O’Mellan, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, with family by her side.
She was born Oct. 31, 1947, to Titus and Anne Tetman Tatar in Youngstown.
A devoted mother, grandmother, teacher and foster parent, Suzanne’s life was a testament to love, kindness and dedication to others. Suzanne was a passionate educator who touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. For many years, she served as a beloved teacher, nurturing and inspiring young minds with her patience, wisdom and unwavering commitment to their success.
In addition to her work as an educator, Suzanne was a devoted foster parent who opened her heart and home to children in need. She was a guiding light for so many and offered not only a safe space but also love, guidance and stability when it was needed most.
Suzanne was the proud mother of Kristina and Robert, and her love for her children was the cornerstone of her life. Her family was everything to her, and she was always available for the people she loved, no matter how busy life became. Her warmth, humor and ability to see the good in everyone made her an unforgettable presence in the lives of her family and friends.
Suzanne is survived by her sisters, Francis Tatar (Peter) in Australia and Nancy (Mike) Hudak of Colorado; brother, Paul Tatar; children, Kristina (Robert), Robert (Angela) O’Mellan; caregiver, Trina (Billy) Whetstone; daughter-in-law, Sheila; foster children, Mahala and Maurice Wallace; grandchildren, Dyllin (Brianna), Brytny, RJ, Katie, Bo and Maddee; great-grandchildren, Eric, Asher, Miles and Auctavia; nephews, Russell Moss and Timothy (Anita) O’Mellan;and nieces, Janina Marie (Scott) Huss and Anna Leigh (Tom) Sturman, whom she adored with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Robert O’Mellan Sr.; son, Eric; sisters, Audrey Moss and Theresa Tatar; brother, Titus Tatar Jr; mother-in-law, Katherine O’Mellan; brother-in-law, William O’Mellan Sr.; sister-in-law, Theresa O’Mellan; and nephew, William O’Mellan Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate Suzanne’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
Suzanne’s legacy of love, compassion and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
