Mark A. Young 1956-2025

ELLSWORTH — Mark A. Young, 69, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, with his family by his side.
Mark was born July 13, 1956, in Salem, a son of the late Myron and Carrie Elaine McJunkin Young, and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1974 graduate of Western Reserve High School, Mark was proud to be part of the football team and rifle club, making lifelong friendships along the way.
Faith was a steady part of his life, and he attended both Ellsworth Community Church and Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. James Church in North Jackson.
Mark devoted 34 years as a lineman for Ohio Edison, where his commitment and dependability earned the respect of his co-workers.
Beyond his career, Mark gave generously of his time and talents. He loved coaching baseball and softball with the Western Reserve Baseball League and later served as president of the Western Reserve Baseball Organization for nine years. He also became a certified umpire for high school baseball and softball, where his fairness and good nature were appreciated by players, coaches and parents alike.
Mark had a gift for bringing people together. He especially enjoyed making sausage, a tradition that gathered family and friends around the table, and he found joy in preserving old traditions while starting new ones. A true sports enthusiast, he was devoted to cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. He also loved attending concerts — especially Neil Young — and could often be found enjoying “Live from Daryl’s House.” Most of all, Mark treasured time spent with his family, and his happiest moments were those filled with laughter, stories and togetherness.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 47 years, Theresa Edel Young, whom he married Oct. 7, 1978; his son, Nicholas (Shannon) Young of North Jackson; his beloved grandson, Connor Young; his sister, Susan Young of Warren; his brother, Keith (Peggy) Young of Austintown; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and countless friends who became like family.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown. In keeping with Mark’s wishes, casual attire is encouraged.
Family and friends may gather from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at the funeral home, where a service will follow at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Fred Schrock.
