Janet Goldstrohm-Shoemaker 1939-2025

NEW MIDDLETOWN — It is with a profound sadness that the family of Janet Stevenson Goldstrohm-Shoemaker, 86, announces her sudden passing, going to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, with her family by her side.
Janet was born July 19, 1939, in the borough of Rural Valley, Pa., a daughter to the late Harry and Christina Goldstrohm.
She attended Kittanning High School.
Janet was the co-founder of B&J Pools in 1986.
She was a devoted wife to her best friend and life partner, Bill Shoemaker, whom she married on Sept. 4, 1956. They loved traveling the United States together, especially by motorcycle.
In addition to attending Freedom Church of New Middletown, she found great comfort and spiritual strength in watching faith-based television, which served as a consistent source of peace and guidance in her life.
Janet was happiest with a comfortable chair, where you could often find her crocheting or reading one of her many books. To Jan, bargain hunting was not just a hobby — it was an adventure. She relished the thrill of finding a great deal and the stories that came with every piece.
Jan shared her home and heart with a long line of beloved cats who were truly members of her family. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with family and friends. She was the glue of our family, who always held us together and kept us informed. Her love and support were a constant presence, always offered with a smile and a hug.
Jan is survived by her son, Jim (Michelle) Shoemaker of New Middletown; daughter, Janice Shoemaker of New Middletown; son, Jeff (Lana) Shoemaker of New Middletown; sister, Bonnie (Keith) Spicher of Brighton, Michigan; nephew, Brian Spicher of Brighton, Michigan; and nephew, Kevin (Diane) Spicher of Brighton, Michigan.
Jan’s grandchildren are Christopher (Jamie) Shoemaker, Jimmy Shoemaker, Eric Shoemaker, Misty Shoemaker, Shawn (Kim) Shoemaker, Keri (Mike) Wright, Brittnie Slepski and Erin (Brittney) King; her great-nephew is Keith Spicher; her great-grandchildren are William James III (Billy) Shoemaker, Christopher (Mya) Shoemaker II, Harley Shoemaker, Savanna Rose, Leya Shoemaker, Kalyssa Shoemaker, Parker Shoemaker, Aiden Wright, Olivia Wright, Lumin Kirtley, Addison Borton, Kaedence Borton, Chloe King, Bella King and Sydney King.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Shoemaker; her son, William J. “Billy” Shoemaker II; and her granddaughter, Stephanie.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at Freedom Church of New Middletown, with a funeral service immediately following. Pastors Oliver and Emily Beans will officiate.
The family encourages guests to wear yellow, Jan’s favorite color.
