Grigore Iosifescu 1934-2025

AVON, Ind. — Memory eternal, Grigore Iosifescu, aka Gregory Fesko, formerly of Youngstown, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sep.6, 2025.

He leaves behind two daughters, Karina Stoffel of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Cristina Tanaskovich of Avon, Indiana; grandchildren, Marinko Tanaskovich, Joanna Linn and Alex Tanaskovich; and great-grandchildren, Rudy Linn and Robin Linn.

He was married to Ioana Iosifescu, deceased.

Born Feb.1, 1934, in Roman, Romania, Grigore emigrated to the U.S. in 1985 with his family during Communism.

He was a great artist, known for intricate black ink landscapes of the Youngstown valley and beyond, and wrote an autobiographical anecdote book, “The Black Cat and Those Eleven Days in the Mahoning County Jail.” He was an avid ping-pong player, enjoyed chess games and sang in choir, and loved animals and people!

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends! God Bless!

The viewing and funeral services will be 10 a.m. Sept. 13, 2025, at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, 626 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

Viewing starts at 10 a.m. and the funeral service at 11 a.m.

He will be buried in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, Youngstown.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled the arrangements for the family.
