Gislinde Byrne 1942-2025
NILES — Gislinde Byrne, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hospice House on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Gislinde Ute Trenkel Byrne was born Aug. 21, 1942, in Breslau, Germany. She came to the United States in 1963 and lived in Weston, Connecticut, where she raised her two sons.
While living in Connecticut, Gislinde was employed as an administrative assistant for various engineering firms, was a real estate agent and a driving instructor. She also raised award-winning German shepherd AKC show dogs.
In 1989, she moved to Florida and worked at Golden Enterprises for several years, then chose to go back to school to get certified in phlebotomy and as a nursing assistant. Gislinde worked at Melbourne Hospital until retirement, living in Palm Bay, Florida.
In 2014, Gislinde moved to Niles to be closer to family. She enjoyed spending time with family and had many creative talents. She made beautiful beaded jewelry, was a wonderful baker and had an amazing way to make any plant grow and thrive. Gislinde especially loved orchids and won several awards for the orchids she raised. She is known for her kindness and gentle, caring spirit.
Gislinde was preceded in death by her parents, Georg and Adelheidt Trenkel. She is survived by her sons, Harold (Ghada) Byrne of Tampa, Florida, and Dr. Gordon (Lia) Byrne of Girard; and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Oma,” Jodie (Matthew), J.B., Ghaydae, Kassem, Francesca and Dante.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard.
Entombment will follow in Girard Liberty Union Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Gislinde at St. Elizabeth Health Center, University Hospitals in Cleveland, Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital and Hospice House in Poland for the care given to Gislinde, and their support and kindness.
May she rest in peace.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.
