Edna M. Plants 1937-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Edna M. Plants, 88, of Youngstown’s West Side, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2025, in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.
Edna was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Washington, Pa., a daughter of the late James Rosen and Icy Burgess Rosen, and lived in the area for most of her life.
She was a graduate of Washington High School in Pennsylvania and attended Trumbull Business College.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Edna lived her life centered on faith and family. She lovingly cared for her home and children, yet also found time to work outside the home as a cook at Skylark Restaurant in Canfield and Jamie’s Restaurant in Salem.
She was a member of the former Cornerstone Chapel, where she faithfully served as the ladies coordinator.
She enjoyed sewing and will always be remembered for her famous pumpkin rolls and cookies, which she happily shared with family, friends and neighbors, especially during the holidays.
Edna is survived by her six children, John (Linda) Rosen of Austintown, Barbara (Robert) Hankey of Austintown, with whom she made her home, Charles F. (Cheryl) Plants Jr. of Tallmadge, Richard (Jennifer) Plants of Cuyahoga Falls, Cindy (James) Pantea of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Ken (the late Lisa) Plants of Boardman; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her husband of 68 years, Charles F. Plants Sr., whom she married April 30, 1955, died Dec. 23, 2023. Four sisters, Betty White, Alice DePoli, Florence Jean Rosen and Goldie Rosen, and two brothers, James Rosen and John Edward McMasters, also preceded her in death.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Brunstetter Cemetery in Austintown, where Edna will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, Edna’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
