Vaneva R. ‘Neva’ Watrous Nolfi 1925-2025

APPLETON, Wis. — Vaneva R. “Neva” Watrous Nolfi, 99, formerly of Girard, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin.

She was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Merrilan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mark and Elsie Davis Riggs.

Vaneva was employed with Hume’s Furniture Store in Youngstown for 11 years, Loblaw’s Grocery for 11 years, and part-time at Fanny Farmer Candies and House of Cards in the Eastwood Mall.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Girard.

Vaneva enjoyed playing bridge in three different clubs. She also enjoyed taking her nieces and nephews out for a meal.

She is survived by her many nieces and nephews: nieces, Marilyn (Dr. Shamim) Anwar, Luanne Bollas and Mary Burin; great-niece and -nephews, Amanda (Tim) Brookbank, Scott (Marissa) Klimenko and Dwayne (Sara) Klimenko; great-great-nieces and -nephews, Jaelyn, Casey, Jamie, Joey, Johnny, Abe and Grey; her stepson, Robert A. (Joan) Nolfi; and two grandsons, Anthony and Michael Nolfi.

Vaneva was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Herbert L. Watrous and Peter J. Nolfi; and siblings, Vivian Braden, Victor Riggs, Viona Laizure, Vera Balciar, Peggy Blumenthal and Ernest Riggs.

A private graveside service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna, where Vaneva will be laid to rest.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Oak Park Place in Menasha, Wisconsin, for the nine years of loving care they provided.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Blackstone Funeral Home.
