Sharyn L. Kennedy 1946-2025
STRUTHERS — Sharyn Louise Kennedy, 78, passed away peacefully, Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at Hospice House, after her many-year battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 11, 1946, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Owen and Betty Williams Altimus.
Sharyn spent the early years of her life dedicated to building a beautiful life with her husband and children before becoming a librarian for both Struthers High School and the state prison. She then worked for the Struthers Federal Credit Union until her retirement.
Her greatest source of pride was being a grandmother. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her grandchildren, supporting them in every way she could, and celebrating their accomplishments. She was deeply involved in their activities, making sure they always knew how loved and cherished they were.
She also treasured her trips to Amish Country, creating lasting memories of simple joys and shared experiences.
Her commitment extended well beyond her family, as she gave generously of her time to her community. She was active in the PTA, always advocating for children and their education. She played a role in celebrating the Bicentennial of Struthers, served on the Trustee Board of SFCU, and was a dedicated member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck” Kennedy, whom she married Jan. 28, 1967; her children, Todd (Wendy) Kennedy of Palm Coast, Florida, and Beth Fightmaster of Canal Fulton; and grandchildren, Daniel Kennedy, Zakary Kennedy, Madison Fightmaster, Keely Fightmaster, Patrick Kennedy and Taylor Fightmaster.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received 4 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, followed immediately by a memorial celebration of her life beginning at 6 p.m.
She will be laid to rest in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514, in her memory.
