Robert D. Kennedy Sr. 1938-2025

McDONALD — Robert D. Kennedy Sr., 87, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family at his bedside, early Sunday morning, Aug. 17, 2025.

Robert was born June 2, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of the late Wendell and Alma Sheets Kennedy, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1956 graduate of Girard High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After his military service, Robert worked at General Motors in Lordstown for 30 years before retiring.

Robert enjoyed various hobbies, including hunting, fishing with his three sons, bowling and gardening. He cherished spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert was a member of St. Rose Parish in Girard and was a member of UAW 1112.

On July 31, 1959, Robert married the love of his life, the former Margie L. Holmes; together, they raised four children. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Besides his wife of 66 years, Margie, he leaves behind his children, Robert Kennedy of Niles, Renee McIntyre (Mark) of McDonald, John (Pam) Kennedy of Austintown and Brian Kennedy of McDonald. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, Heidi (Jeff) Vanek of Canfield, Danielle McIntyre of Girard, and Wesley, Justin and Taylor Kennedy; and great-grandchildren, Emerson and Liam Vanek, and Cameron, Nathan and Everlyn Kennedy.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wendall and Ronald Kennedy, Margaret Schesler and Janet Kennedy.
