Richard McLaughlin 1963-2025

GIRARD — Richard “Mac” McLaughlin died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, of a heart attack.
He was born April 9, 1963, in Washington, D.C., to parents Dick and Betty McLaughlin, and was raised in Youngstown.
Mac graduated from Ursuline High School in 1981 and joined the Marine Corps. He proudly served for eight years — an experience he cherished deeply and spoke of often. His time in the Marines remained one of the proudest chapters of his life.
After leaving the Marines, he married Tina Malguy. Together they lived in Paris, France, for 18 years, and raised their three children, Nastasia, Killian and Savannah-Jane.
Mac worked for Microsoft as an IT developer, where one of his most memorable projects was helping launch Disneyland Paris. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel the world — something he embraced fully — visiting an incredible 83 countries throughout his lifetime.
After retiring, he returned to Youngstown, where he devoted his time to giving back to the community. He became a full-time volunteer at Oak Hill Collaborative under the guidance of his cousin, Pat Kerrigan. His commitment to service never wavered, and he found great purpose in helping others.
Mac leaves behind his mother, Betty McLaughlin; brother, Chris (Gina) McLaughlin; sisters, Kelly McLaughlin (Raymond Towler) and Molly (Jamie) Burdette; his children, Nastasia, Killian and Savannah-Jane; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dick McLaughlin.
Those who knew him will remember his quick wit, generous spirit and unwavering curiosity. True to his nature, his business card simply read: “Mac McLaughlin, He fixes stuff and knows things.” It perfectly captured his resourcefulness, intelligence and sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any monetary donations be made to Oak Hill Collaborative, 507 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502.
The family will receive relatives and friends 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at the McCauley Funeral Home, followed immediately by a celebration by Deacon Sylvester Frazzini.
