Richard A. Ahlquist 1951-2025

POLAND — Richard A. “Rick” Ahlquist passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Youngstown, to Anton and Isabel Anthony Ahlquist. Rick graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975 and belonged to the American Legion.
He retired from MIP Inc. in 2020. Throughout his life, Rick drove truck and did factory work. Wherever Rick worked, he had a wonderful work ethic and was a valuable employee.
He was Protestant and lived his faith daily by helping anyone who needed anything.
He loved to play with his grandchildren, and they will never forget the claw, papa jail, blastoff, couch testing and missile slippers. He was an avid Browns, Buckeyes and Yankees fan. He loved Geneva vacations with his family and friends.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Nancy Williams Ahlquist, whom he married July 8, 1972; sons, Jeremy (Angela) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Christopher of Youngstown; and his daughter, Amy (Brian) Schlosser of Struthers; his grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Ethan, Aaron, Alyssa, Abigail Ahlquist, and Gage, Greyson and Gehrig Schlosser. He also leaves behind his sister, Natalie Ahlquist Beil, and his close friend, Jim Mussler, who watched sports with him for 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his brother, Edward, his brother-in-law and best friend, Dave Beil.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, at Kirila Funeral Home, 258 Poland Ave., Struthers, OH 44471, and 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, with a service to follow at noon at the funeral home.
