He was born Jan. 24, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of Thomas J. and Catherine M. Smith Gallagher. He was a beloved brother, uncle and friend.
Mike was raised on Youngstown’s South Side, where he first attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School and then graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1970. A natural leader, he forged many lifelong friendships during these early years. These same friends, along with family, surrounded him with love and support during his brief illness.

Known for his sharp intellect, boundless curiosity and unforgettable storytelling, Mike was a proud member of Mensa. His passion for learning and adventure fueled a love of travel. With his fleet of motorhomes, he explored the country, visiting museums, attending events and seeking new destinations time and again.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Mike was an active member of the Trumbull County Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). He also belonged to several other organizations, including the Mahoning and Trumbull County Historical Societies, the Youngstown Saxon Club and the Cortland Moose Lodge.
