Mary V. Dearing 1948-2025
BOARDMAN — Mary V. Dearing, 77, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, July 26, 2025.
Mary was born May 22, 1948, in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Johnston DeKatch, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and began her career as a phlebotomist. Later in life, she changed her career to being a teacher’s aide with Potential Development, where she brought care and compassion to her work with children; she then retired to help raise her grandchildren.
She married her beloved husband Daniel on Aug. 3, 1968. They were married for 27 years until his passing in 1995, and Mary missed him deeply. Mary and Daniel are now reunited and looking over their loved ones.
She was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Dominic Church.
Mary will be remembered for her warm smile, her sociable and vibrant personality, and the love she poured into her home and garden. She especially cherished time spent with her grandsons, Trevor and Chase, who brought her endless joy.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Adam Dearing (Kristen Unger) and Andrew (Jodi) Dearing; her grandsons, Trevor and Chase; and her beloved dog, Weena. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathleen DeKatch Rajner and Ruth Anne DeKatch Storey; and her brothers, Joseph Douglas, John Paul and Randall DeKatch.
Family and friends may pay their respects 10 to 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
