Mary G. Scullin 1928-2025

HUBBARD — Mary G. Scullin, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Mary was born July 28, 1928, in Grove City, Pa., the daughter of Anthony J. and Ella Coogan Gregory. She graduated from Grove City High School in 1945 and from Mercy School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1949.

Mary was a registered nurse, worked at Grove City Hospital and later at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Her husband, Attorney Richard T. Scullin, whom she married Sept. 9, 1950, passed away May 30, 1980. The couple raised nine children, instilling in them the values of hard work, dedication, education and a sense of humor.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, volunteered for the Red Cross and St. Elizabeth Hospital for 26 years, and was involved with Hubbard Senior Citizens.

Mary was a hardworking, caring and faithful woman who loved reading, laughing, traveling with her sister, Judy, and watching “Jeopardy” (she was a dominant player).

She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family: her children, Richard S. (Nancy) Scullin of New Waterford; Terrence Scullin of Hubbard; Thomas Scullin of Lancaster, Pa.; William Scullin and Bretynn Race of Knoxville, Tennessee; Patrick (Donna) Scullin of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; Daniel Scullin of Los Angeles, California; Mary (Steven) Jensen of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and Judith (Ronald) Myers of Strongsville. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Sean Scullin, Dr. Sarah Scullin (Dr. Jason Nethercut), Katherine (Joel) King, Matthew (Desiree) Scullin, Patrick Jensen, Jack (Leigh) Scullin and Christopher Scullin; and five great-grandchildren: Isaac Nethercut, Noah King, Frederick Nethercut, Nicholas Nethercut and Cora Nethercut. She also leaves her brother, Thomas Gregory of Grove City, Pa.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; son, Mark Scullin; brother, Anthony Gregory; and sisters, Elizabeth O’Neil, Julia Urey and Helen Freeman.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Howard Slemons for his excellent care and Southern Care Hospice for their assistance.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, officiated by the Very Rev. Michael D. Balash, with calling hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard.

Mary will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
