Katherine H. Lugibihl 1928-2025

COLUMBIANA — Katherine Harriet “Kay” Lugibihl, 96, formerly of Hitchcock Road in Boardman, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, Aug. 14, 2025, at The Inn at Old Saybrook in Columbiana.
Kay was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Hendricks Chuck. A graduate of South High School, she attended Bluffton College, where she met the love of her life, Edison. She later completed her education at Dyke & Spencerian College.
Following college, Kay began her career as a secretary at Boardman Local Schools, working at Boardman Junior High and later in the superintendent’s office. She continued her professional journey as office manager at R.M. Jones Plumbing in Boardman before becoming the manager of the Boardman Local School Employees Credit Union, which became the Associated School Employees Credit Union, where she worked until her retirement.
A devoted member of Boardman United Methodist Church for over 70 years, Kay was deeply involved in church life and taught confirmation classes for 30 of those years. Her desire was to walk daily the path of Christ.
In recognition of their lifelong service to the community and public education, Kay and Edison were honored with the Boardman Civic Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
Kay’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three children, Jay R. (Jennifer) Lugibihl of Boardman, Gay L. (Robert) Mowery of Boardman and Tad E. (Katie) Lugibihl of Waxhaw, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Noah) Kenreigh, Michelle Wise, Stefani (Kenny) Stafford, Robert (Adrienne) Mowery, Matthew (Kaila) Mowery, Jessica Mowery, Jordan Lugibihl, Kayla Lugibihl and Emma Lugibihl; and six great-grandchildren, Rosemary, Orion, Elio, Caden, Robert and Dennis. She also leaves behind a brother, Gerry (Gail) Chuck of Harrison; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Keifer of Pandora, and Ellie Chuck of Poland; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Edison G. Lugibihl, whom she married Aug. 26, 1950, and who passed May 2, 2021; her brother, Jay Chuck; two brothers-in-law, LaVerne Augsburger and Eddie Keifer; and her in-laws, Orrie and Lydia Lugibihl.
Family and friends may call 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Allison LeBrun officiating.
Interment will take place in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at The Inn at Old Saybrook and the Ohio Living Hospice staff for the loving care provided. A special thank you to “the two Karens” and all of Kay’s many friends, who each were a special part of her journey.
