Helen Karniewicz 1937-2025
GIRARD — Helen Karniewicz, 88, passed away peacefully, Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland.
Helen was born March 28, 1937, in Poland, Europe, the daughter of Wojciech and Katarzina Kochanczyk.
She married her husband, Henry Karniewicz, in July 1958, and they both came to the Youngstown area.
She retired after working at General Electric for 20 years.
Before it closed, she was a parishioner at St. Stanislaus Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered her time in their pierogi program. Most recently, she was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.
Helen was an avid gardener and loved planting and tending to her flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed cooking, caring for her hummingbirds, doing word puzzles and reading good books. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Helen will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her sense of humor, generous spirit and big heart.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who passed away in November 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Karniewicz of Florida; son, Richard Karniewicz of Austintown; granddaughter, Dana Karniewicz; and two great-grandsons, Weston and Wyatt; sister, Stella Olak of Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Per Helen’s wishes, there are no calling hours. There will be a private family service.
Helen will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
