Dolores S. Novotny 1933-2025

STRUTHERS — It is with profound sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Dolores “Dorie” S. Novotny, 92, early Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025.

Dolores was born April 29, 1933, in Struthers, the daughter of John and Mary Rogan. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and lived in Struthers for the past 66 years.

She was a longtime parishioner of St. Nicholas Parish in Struthers, where she had been part of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She married Francis J. Novotny on Aug. 25, 1954. He passed away July 5, 1982.

Dorie’s life was anchored in unshakable faith and deep love for her family. Widowed at a young age, she embraced the care of her family.

She leaves five children, Diane (Mark) Brenner of Struthers, Richard (Laurel) Novotny of Newton Falls, Mark (Karen) Novotny of Mentor, Karen Novotny (Keith Martin) of Frederick, Maryland, and Greg (Nicole) Novotny of St. Louis, Missouri.

A strong presence as a “grandma,” she will also be deeply missed by her 10 grandchildren, Scott, Stephanie, Brian, Brittany, Daniel, Nicholas, Alaina, Tyler, Dominic and Francesca; and 10 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Aiden, Owen, Sawyer, Bellamy, Finn, Emilia, Madelyn, Anastazie and Ryland. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Rogan; her husband, Francis J. Novotny; and her brother, John Rogan Jr.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to Addison Community Assisted Living for the great care and commitment to Dorie these last three months.

Calling hours will take place 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at Holy Trinity Church in Struthers. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Philip Rogers presiding.

Dorie was an avid contributor to many charities, including March of Dimes, Rescue Mission, St. Jude, Angels for Animals and Macular Degeneration Foundation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of these charities in her name or to a charity of your choice.
