Barbara A. Samuelson 1940-2025

CHICAGO — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Talley Samuelson, who left this world on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born Aug. 12, 1940, in Youngstown, she built a beautiful life with her beloved husband, the late Raymond Nils Samuelson, also of Youngstown.

A graduate of Ursuline High School in 1958, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, in February 1962 to start a new life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Isabel Talley, and her brother, Joe Talley. She is survived by her sister, Donna White.

Barbara was a proud and devoted mother of Raymond R. (Amy) Samuelson and Sean E. (Imelda) Samuelson, and adored her grandchildren, Adam, Jesse and Kyrah, showering all with boundless love and affection. Family was everything to Barb; she loved fiercely and protected her own with unshakeable strength.

She raised her children with a loving hand and provided structure when needed but allowing her sons to experience life and make their own choices. She was like a second mother to her sister, Donna. She was down to earth and governed her household with warmth and laughter.

Friends and family could always count on her empathy and discretion, and considered her the oice of reason.

Barbara was the one to call in a crisis, always offering a helping hand. Her house was never empty; all were welcome in their time of need. She was a fighter for the underdog and treated all with grace and respect. Her generosity knew no bounds.

To those who knew Barbara, she was a spunky Irish girl with an undeniable spirit.

She also was considered the family historian and was a wonderful storyteller.

Her first job in Chicago was at the Palmer House, and she ended her 45-year career at NFA to care for her grandchildren.

Barb’s legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

While she may be gone, the imprint she left on her family and friends will never fade.

“Thanks, Mom, You always gave me your best and I owe you my best moving forward.”

In lieu of flowers, if so inclined, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org, would be appreciated.
