William P. Simon 1938-2025

DUBLIN — William “Bill” P. Simon, 87, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Sunrise of Dublin.

He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of the late John E. and Mary L. Loy Simon.

Bill graduated from St. Patrick Grade School, where he was proud to be an altar boy. He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1955. After high school, he attended Youngstown State University, where he graduated as an electrical engineer. After graduation, he worked at Bell Laboratories for over 30 years.

Bill enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe; he especially loved visiting New York City several times a year to see various Broadway shows and the opera.

He was an avid reader and was proud of the fact that his home did not have internet access or cable television. He did the New York Times crossword puzzle in pen every week and his family always said that he should try to be on “Jeopardy.”

Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, John Simon of Largo, Florida, and Richard Simon of Mansfield. He also leaves his brother-in-law, William Smith of Newton, New Jersey.

Bill has over 30 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss him very much.

Bill had a very special relationship with his grandniece, Emily Smith, who had lunch with him most days and would load him in her Jeep to take on various adventures and to family events. Emily’s grandmother, Barbara Smith, would have been very proud of her for how she took care of her brother. The family would like to thank Emily for all that she did for Uncle Bill.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Simon Smith.

Family and friends may call 10 to 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.
