William J. Chismar 1928-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — After a long and wonderful life, William J. Chismar, 96, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at home.

Bill was born and raised in Youngstown, to William and Mary Maurer Chismar, on Nov. 21, 1928, and was proud to grow up in Smoky Hollow.

He graduated from Rayen High School and was in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952.

Bill worked for over 40 years at General Fireproofing Co. After retiring from GF, he worked at The Health Food Store for over 10 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Austintown, where he was a head usher, member of the Men’s Club and member of the Knights of Columbus.

He married Mariann Watters Chismar on June 23, 1956, and shared 64 years of marriage before her passing on July 2, 2020. Together they raised three daughters, Kathleen, Patricia and Lori. While raising his daughters, he was very active at St. Joseph Church in Austintown, where he and his wife were founding members.

He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Osiniak of Melbourne, Florida, Patricia (Anthony) Caizza of Palm Coast, Florida, and Lori Terlecki, and partner, Thomas Schmidt of Mulberry, Florida; granddaughter, Amanda Caizza (Steve) Folkers; grandson, Ryan Osiniak; great-grandson, Luke Anthony Folkers; brother, Michael Chismar of Zanesville; sister-in-law, Betty Chismar of Boardman; and brother, Edward Chismar of Poland; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Andrew) Stolar and John Watters; brothers, Anthony M. Chismar Sr. and Joseph J. Chismar; sister, Mary Pauline Chismar Kral; sisters-in-law, Barbara Chismar, Nancy Chismar and Janie Chismar, and Barbara Foisel Kulhman; nephews, Edward Chismar and Edward Delbrugge; nieces, Nancy and Tammy Kral; and recently deceased brother, John Chismar.

The family would like to thank Bill’s nieces, Jay and Barb, and caregivers Chris, Gloria, Kathy, Andrea, Charelle, Sharon and Tammy Petrosky.

Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2025, at St. Joseph Parish, 4545 New Road, Austintown, with calling hours 10 to 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements for the family.
