William F. Blascak 1931-2025
AUSTINTOWN — William F. “Bill” Blascak, 93, passed away peacefully at his residence, Saturday, July 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Girard, William is the son of Joseph and Katherine Gossick Blascak.
A proud graduate of Youngstown College (now Youngstown State University), William earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry, and master’s degree in education. While there, William lettered in both golf and football.
He served his country with honor during the Korean War as a military officer in the United States Army, where he was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division Policy Company and the 503rd Airborne Regimental Combat Team.
William dedicated more than three decades of his life to education, most notably serving as superintendent of Southington Local Schools. His career included roles as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and coach of baseball and football. He also taught biology at Youngstown State University and remained active in the YSU Alumni Association.
Deeply involved in his community, William was a co-founder of the South High Sports Alumni and a dedicated volunteer with the American Cancer Society, particularly supporting its “Send a Mouse to College” initiative. He enjoyed playing the trumpet, hunting, fishing and golfing with his beloved wife, and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong advocate for education and service, and his impact on students, colleagues and his community will be long remembered.
On Dec. 28, 1957, William married the former Patricia Higgins. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Terry (Paul Rudy) Blascak, Paul Blascak, Lisa (KJ) Cramer and Patrick (Gina) Blascak; his grandchildren, Austin Blascak, Patrick William Blascak, Carrington Blascak, Carlee Cramer and Casey Cramer; and his brother, Martin Blascak.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joseph Jr. (Peggy) Blascak and Bernie (Evelyn) Blascak; and his sister-in-law, Donna Blascak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown. Military honors will follow the service with a luncheon to follow at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in William’s name to Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks Foundation, P.O. Box 596, Canfield, OH 44406.
