Margaret A. McBride 1932-2025

CANFIELD — Margaret A. “Peggy” McBride, 93, peacefully passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at The Inn at Ironwood.
Peggy was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Youngstown, to Fred J. Freisen and Dorothy M. O’Brien Freisen. She attended St. Dominic Grade School and Ursuline High School, graduating in the Class of 1950.
At just 16 years old, Peggy began her professional life at McKelvey’s Department Store as a clerk. From 1950 to 1955, she worked at Ohio Bell Telephone. She left the workforce to raise her children and returned to work at Ohio Bell in 1970. During her time with the phone company, she worked in a variety of roles, ultimately serving as a clerk in the engineering department and retiring after 31 years.
Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy McBride, Karen (Bruce) Sekanick, Maureen (Dutch) Shaffer and Patty (Michael) DePaola. She was a proud grandmother of 12, Dutch (Lindsay) Shaffer III, Nick (Meagan) Shaffer, Drew (Brittani) McBride, Kevin (Angela) DePaola, Maggie (Tom) Kutch, Kaytee (Tom) Harlan, Kelsey (Patrick) Cavanaugh, Alyssa (Daniel) Winland, Brandon Sekanick, Kristina (Gunnar) Sertl, Ryan Sekanick and Finn (Trill) McBride. Peggy cherished her 11 great-grandchildren and was excited that two additional were on the way. She also is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jean McBride and Betty Freisen; several nieces and nephews; as well as close friends, Susan Jaminet, Martha McGowan and Julie Patterson.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James M. McBride; her parents; her son, James “Ernie” McBride Jr.; and brothers, Fred “Fritz” and James Freisen.
Jim and Peggy were avid University of Notre Dame fans.
Services will be held in her honor, with visitation 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr Centre Drive, Canfield, OH 44406.
Prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Parish, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown, OH 44507.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Inn at Ironwood for the care it provided during the six years that Peggy called Ironwood her home. The family also would like to thank the staff at Patriot Hospice.
