Lucy Continenza 1932-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Lucy (Lu) Continenza, a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Youngstown, to Dominic and Nancy Lepore-Fammartino. She was also raised by Joseph and Carmela Meyers.

She graduated from Rayen High School and married the love of her life, Sam Continenza, on April 18, 1953. They shared 58 wonderful years until his passing in 2011.

Lucy had a passion for road trips, attending concerts and especially loved listening to her favorite artist, Michael Buble. She was a talented cook who delighted in sharing her food and recipes with friends and family. Those fortunate enough to know her well often received informal cooking lessons, given with joy and generosity.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Lucy had a deep spiritual life and found a beloved community as a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Continenza Shibble, and son-in-law, James Shibble; her granddaughter, Haley Shibble; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Continenza; and her nieces and nephews, Karen Brandt, Karleen Havrilla, Kara Continenza, Sylvia Gizzi, Carmela Woodall and Nicholas Bahny. She also leaves behind Kathy Crespo, whom she lovingly considered another daughter, as well as many other cherished nieces and nephews. Over the years, Lucy’s circle of dear friends grew into a chosen family — people she embraced and loved as her own children and grandchildren.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Continenza; her grandson, Alexander Shibble; her Fammartino siblings, Julie, Rocco, Daniel, Mary and Angie; her Meyers siblings, Florence, Delphine, Elsie and Frank; her brother-in-law, Patsy Continenza; and her sister-in-law, Martha (Raymond) Sandy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Kaili Gehring, PA, along with the staff at Southwoods Primary Care and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to call at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 3504 S. Main St., Mineral Ridge, with Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman. Family and friends are encouraged to offer prayers for the family by visiting the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com.
