Kristen L. Hodge 1987-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Kristen Lynn Hodge, 38, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, following complications from surgery.

Kristen was born Jan. 29, 1987, in Youngstown, a daughter of Dr. Richard and Denise Procopio Kalapos, and lived in the area most of her life.

A 2005 graduate of Ursuline High School, Kristen went on to earn an associate degree in business administration from Kent State University.

She had an eye for beauty and style and worked at several local salons as a hairdresser. Her heart, however, was always with those in need — she later co-owned a business dedicated to caring for disabled young adults, a role that showcased her immense compassion and kindness. Most recently, Kristen was employed at Ohio Valley Waste, where she brought her energy, dedication and friendliness to the workplace every day.

Kristen eventually shifted her focus to what mattered most to her: raising her daughters and building a life filled with love and laughter. She adored country music and never passed up the chance to attend a good concert, often dancing and singing along with her signature joy and energy.

Kristen is survived by her husband, Matthew C. Hodge, whom she married May 10, 2019; her mother, Denise Kalapos of Youngstown; and her cherished daughters, Kinzlee and Mia Hodge, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her brother, Michael Kalapos (Lyndsey) of Cuyahoga Falls; her in-laws, Bob and Gloria Hodge; and siblings-in-law, Amy (Steven) Savich, Robert (Keri) Hodge, Jamie (Jody) Hodge and Tony (Shanice) Hodge. Kristen’s extended family includes many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were touched by her vibrant spirit.

Kristen was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Richard Kalapos; her sister-in-law, Danielle Hodge; and her grandparents, James and Jean Procopio.

True to her giving nature, Kristen’s final act of love was the gift of life through organ donation — saving and improving the lives of several others.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests contributions be made directly to support Kristen’s daughters, Kinzlee and Mia, in her memory.
