Joyce M. McKenzie 1938-2025

Joyce was born July 16, 1938, in Sharon, Pa., a daughter of the late Henry J. and Nettie Slabe Zorzi. A graduate of the Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing, Joyce dedicated her career to caring for others as a registered nurse at Sharon General Hospital and Farrell Hospital.

A longtime member of First United Presbyterian Church in East Palestine, Joyce lived a life marked by creativity, kindness and devotion to her loved ones. She was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, making dolls and creating beautiful ceramics. She was an avid reader, reading at one time almost 20 books a week, especially loving suspense and thriller novels.

Joyce was also a gracious hostess who loved entertaining family and friends, and she was especially known for her exceptional cooking and baking.

She leaves behind her loving husband of nearly 54 years, Daniel E. McKenzie, whom she married Aug. 27, 1971; her children, Frank Gorichky of Birmingham, Alabama, Kerry Goodballet of East Liverpool, Andrew McKenzie of Cranberry, Pa., Christine Watson of Canfield and Michael McKenzie of Girard; as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jackie Zagger and Janice Wilkin.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, in the Green Haven Cemetery Chapel, 3495 S. Canfield Niles Road, Canfield, OH 44406.

Following the services, the family invites friends to a luncheon at Crossroads Church, 554 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, OH 44509, where they will receive guests 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The family requests material tributes take the form of donations to East Palestine Public Library in Joyce’s memory, 309 N. Market St., East Palestine, OH 44413.
