Joseph E. Blasko 1934-2025
CAMPBELL — Joseph E. Blasko, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland.
Joseph was born March 11, 1934, in Campbell, a son of Jacob and Anna Cifrik Blasko.
Joseph was a 1951 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army from April 9, 1957, until March 16, 1959, and was stationed in Orleans, France, for 18 months. Upon returning home, he was placed in a Reserve unit and was discharged with the rank of SP4 after two years of active duty, two years of active Reserve and two years of inactive Reserve.
On May 21, 1960, Joseph married the love of his life, the former Teresa Francisco; they shared nearly 59 years of marriage until her passing on May 17, 2019.
Joseph worked as a produce manager at A&P food store and at Sparkle Market. He later worked part-time at The Vindicator building and D & L Freight.
He lived a simple and humble life, content with what he had. His quiet generosity and selfless nature were felt by everyone around him — he gave without ever expecting anything in return.
A faithful and active member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Joseph volunteered regularly, including making pirohy and helping at the church steak fries and festivals.
Joseph loved being outdoors in nature. He enjoyed swimming and was a member of the Mahoning Sportsman Association of Hillsville, Pa. He also liked riding his bike along the Lowellville bike trail and jogging and hiking in his younger days.
Joseph enjoyed sports and was a loyal Browns, Indians, Ohio State, YSU and Campbell Memorial fan.
Above all, Joseph will be remembered for his quiet strength, humble heart and unwavering love for his family. He always put others before himself and made sure those around him were cared for. His presence brought comfort, and his selfless acts — big and small — touched the lives of many.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Karen Blasko of Campbell, John (Stacy) Blasko of Columbiana and Roseann (Dave) Marino of North Lima. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Anthony, Josh and Maddie Marino, and Luke and Julia Blasko; along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Teresa; his brothers, John, Nicholas, William, Raymond and Michael Blasko; his sisters, Martha Macala and Irene Waliga; and three infant siblings.
The Blasko family has entrusted Joseph’s care to Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Divine Liturgy officiated by Father Michael Farynets at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1898 Wilson Ave., Youngstown, OH 44506.
