John E. Murphy
AUSTINTOWN — John E. Murphy, affectionately known as Jack, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 67.
Born Feb. 14, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jack was the son of Regis and Phyllis Ward Murphy.
A 1976 graduate of Baldwin Whitehall High School, Jack went on to build a successful career as a construction manager in the cellular tower industry, retiring in 2021 after 25 years of dedicated service. Earlier in life, he also worked as an electrician and welder, trades that reflected his hands-on spirit and skill.
On Feb. 28, 1981, Jack married the former, MaryEllen Hughes. Together, they shared a love for travel, adventure and camping. Jack was known as the “firekeeper” on their camping trips, always keeping the fire going and spirits high, his smile lighting up the campgrounds.
Jack was a devoted husband, a caring brother and uncle, and a loyal friend. Always willing to lend a hand, he was a true “Jack” of all trades who could fix just about anything. He lived his life with generosity and heart, and even in passing, he continued to give, offering the gift of sight through cornea donation. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor and unwavering support for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Murphy.
Jack leaves to cherish his memory, his wife MaryEllen; his siblings, Rege (Sharon) Murphy, Joe (Janie) Murphy, Danny (Lori) Murphy and Donnie (Lisa) Murphy; his sister-in-law, Kathy Murphy; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by his loving in-laws, Tom (Jeanne) Hughes, Diane Schlick and LouAnne (John) Dolphin.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
A celebration of life will follow at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
