BOARDMAN — John E. “Jack” Chismar Sr., 86, made his transition to his heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.

Jack will always be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, loyalty and being a true gentleman. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Youngstown, the son of William and Mary Maurer Chismar, and was a lifelong area resident.

Jack attended SS. Cyril & Methodius Grade School and then was a 1957 graduate from The Rayen High School. He proudly served in the United States Army, where he enlisted on Jan. 17, 1962. Jack was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, adult server and with the nursing home ministry. He also volunteered his time at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Jack lived life to the fullest and loved getting people to laugh by telling them jokes. He enjoyed bowling and was active in many leagues, working in his yard for hours and going on casino bus trips where he would play games of chance, but he especially loved spending time with his family.

Jack leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories, the love of his life, his wife of over 60 years, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Naples, whom he married Aug. 1, 1964; his beloved children, Lisa (Kevin) O’Brien and John Jr. (Kathy) Chismar, both of Columbus; his three grandsons whom he adored, Jason O’Brien, and Alex and Peter Chismar; two brothers, Michael Chismar and Edward Chismar; and a sister-in-law, Joann Stolar; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
