Joanne F. Protain 1946-2025

Joanne was born Sept. 6, 1946, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Louis H. and Frances Wetherbee Protain.

Joanne worked for Dollar Savings and Trust in downtown Youngstown for over 20 years.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and late-night runs to Walmart with her best friend, Miss Addier Douglas.

She spent her days watching reruns of “The Golden Girls” and “The Price is Right” while enjoying the company of her great-nephew, Braydon McElhinny.

Joanne is survived by her two brothers, James (Rosemary) Protain Sr. and John (Debbie) Protain.

Also mourning her passing are her nephews and nieces, James Protain Jr., Dr. Joseph (Dr. Alison) Protain, Stacy Hill (fiance, Ryan Piszczek) of Florida, Kim (Thomas) Stimple, Randi (Matt) McElhinny, Kristy (Chris) Olinik and Christopher Protain. She also leaves behind many great-nephews and great-nieces, and three great-great-nephews.

A private funeral service was held Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home. Interment followed in Lake Park Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
