Helen E. Mauch 1942-2025
AUSTINTOWN — Helen E. Mauch, 83, of Austintown, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 21, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
“Eileen,” as she was affectionately known, was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of Patrick and Helen Conaboy Casey.
She was a 1960 graduate of East High School and worked several years for the former Strouss Hirshburg department store downtown.
After her three children started school, she worked for Hill’s department store in the Austintown Plaza for 25 years until retiring.
After her retirement, she volunteered with the E.M.F. Outreach Center thrift store for a time.
She married James E. Mauch on May 3, 1963, and they shared 62 years of marriage and many wonderful memories. He survives her.
Eileen was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg, where she was very active, serving on several committees. She was also an active member and officer of Branch 22 of the Youngstown Saxon Club, where she participated in the Saxon Traveling Bowling League and the Ladies and Couples Bocce Leagues. She was honored as the Saxon Club “Woman Of The Year” in 2013, “Mother Of The Year” in 2015, and was awarded the Alliance of Transylvania “Honor Pin” in 2011.
Eileen especially enjoyed cooking for her family, growing flowers, getting together with former Hill’s coworkers and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a kind, loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her husband, Eileen is survived by two sons, Ronald (JoAnn) Mauch and Thomas Mauch, both of Austintown. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Trevor (Megan), Ed, Paige and Casey; a sister-in-law, Sheila Casey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Edward, who died in 1988; three brothers, Mickey, Thomas and Bill; and five sisters, Theresa, Anna, Catherine, Mary Ellen and Patricia.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Saxon Club Memorial Fund, in Eileen’s memory.
