Frances A. Rigby 1935-2025

SALEM — Frances A. Rigby, 89, of Salem, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

She was born on Aug. 28, 1935, in Youngstown, to the late Nicholas and Ethel Burnett. Frances grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Villa Maria High School in 1953.

In her early years, Frances worked at General Electric before dedicating herself to raising her children, as a homemaker. She later returned to the workforce at Northside and Southside Hospitals, where she served with dedication for 30 years until her retirement.

On Oct. 2, 1976, she married Lane E. Rigby, her beloved husband of 48 years, who survives her.

Frances leaves behind her four children, Michele (Gary) Hull, Albert (Michele) Kovach, Karen Kovach-McGivern and Michael (Colette) Kovach; and two stepchildren: Valorie (Rusty) Kunkle and Michael (Doris) Rigby. She was a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, Nicole (Matthew) Monus, Kara Kovach, Brian (Lauren) Hull, Kody Kovach, Brandon Hull, Kyle Kovach, Kalin Kovach, Rachael (Matt Stedt) Rigby, Erika Rigby, Andrea (Mike) Porinchak, Stacey Kunkle and Matthew (Kendall Diver) Kunkle. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. Frances is survived by her brother, John “Jack” Burnett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Adeline Housel; and her brother, Nicholas Burnett.

Frances had a deep love for reading, walking, working puzzles and spending time in nature. A woman of strong faith, she was devoted to her religion and prayed the Rosary daily. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on through all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at Lane Funeral Home 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, with a service following at 6 p.m.
