Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ Kana 1933-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Elizabeth J. “Betty” Kana, 92, of Youngstown’s West Side, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, July 5, 2025, in the comfort of her home.

Betty was born May 11, 1933, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Leonard and Eleanor Herold Lampe, and was a lifelong area resident.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Betty dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.

She was a member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church and more recently attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown, where she was active with the Altar and Rosary Society and the senior citizens organization.

An avid bowler, Betty participated in several leagues throughout the Mahoning Valley, including those at Gran Lanes, West Side Lanes, Camelot Lanes, Amron Lanes and Wedgewood Lanes. She was inducted into the Youngstown Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame, served as a director for 13 years and oversaw the Senior Tournament of Bowling for more than 20 years. She was also honored as Secretary of the Year.

Betty enjoyed regular lunches with friends, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family.

Betty leaves to forever cherish her memory, her three children, Eileen Ellsworth of Youngstown, Thomas Kana of Youngstown and Jeannie (Joe) Serrecchio of Austintown; seven grandchildren, Steve (April) Baker, Joseph Baker, Stephanie (Rodney) Kale, Kelley (Jarred) Johnson, Erica Kana, Brian (Dani) Serrecchio and Jamie Serrecchio; 10 great grandchildren, Nicki, Eric, Joseff, Daniel, Hanna, Mikayla, Nico, Sophia, Addy Mae and Evie; her brother, Joseph Lampe of Youngstown; her sisters, Patricia Rohrbaugh of Youngstown and Marge Rohrbaugh of Youngstown; and several extended family members.

Her husband of nearly 63 years, Stephen W. Kana, whom she married Oct. 27, 1951, died Sept. 19, 2014.

Six siblings, Mary Lou Jones, Bill Lampe, Don Lampe, Ruth Barnes, Carol Croyle and Dee Widener, also preceded Betty in death.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
